Ms. Mayra joined SBMA in 2023, bringing over twelve years of teaching experience from both her native Colombia and the United States. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Psychology from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and is fluent in Spanish and English. Ms. Mayra brings warmth and joy to the classroom, using songs, dance, puppets, and Montessori materials to make language learning fun and engaging. “What I love about working with young children is the capacity children have to make me smile everyday. They're spontaneous, full of love and eager to discover the world and the things I have to teach them.”

 Outside of the classroom, Ms. Mayra enjoys making beaded jewelry, listening to salsa music, and spending time with her husband, three daughters, and their playful miniature poodle, Charlie. She is grateful for the opportunity to share her language and culture with the SBMA community and treats each child with the same care she gives her own.
